When you are working on a large production, you are a very much a small cog in a large wheel. In this particular case, it was a very large wheel indeed.
All together there were four articulated lorry loads of lighting and sound equipment, and a forty strong crew of technical professionals to make it happen over five days.
Another twenty people provided client facing support from the production agency that was putting the show together for their client, a well known high street brand.
My role in all this was to be part of the team installing the video equipment, and then running the video elements during the evening gala dinner.
During the two days of build, we had to install four large projectors onto the lighting rig. Each projector was pointing at an 8 metre wide screen for camera relay, and video elements.
There was a full day of meticulous rehearsals, and then the event kicked off with a dance spectacular and a day of presentations. The main hall then had a three hour turnaround, whilst the audience nipped back to their hotel to get their glad-rags on, and we rigged for the band and DJ.
The gala dinner finished at midnight, and the following day it was back to speeches and presentations which laid out the business goals for the next twelve months. Things finally came to a close at 4pm, at which point the audience and presenters all went home, and extra crew arrived to help with the de-rig.
It took just three and a half hours to tear the entire production down, the last of the truck doors being slammed shut around 7:30 pm for the journey home.
